International co-operation

Following the Paris Climate Agreement, evidence of rising global CO2 emissions and impacts of climate change, it is widely becoming accepted that ‘we are all in this together’. In February the directors agreed that Dorset Community Energy joins the International Network for Sustainable Energy (INFORSE), an NGO network which was established at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 and currently has 75 member organisations in 35 European countries and 180 member organisations globally.

Dorset Community Energy secretary Pete West attended a 5 day INFORSE- Europe seminar and 25th Anniversary celebration in late August at the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy in northern Denmark. There were 35 attendees from 15 different European countries, which provided an excellent opportunity to share information. One day was dedicated to community energy including the European RES-Coop movement, excellent examples from Denmark and a presentation on new EU energy policy, which surprisingly now supports community energy. Pete gave a short presentation on Dorset Community Energy and participated in a sustainable energy education working group.
